Just installed GlouOS on my old gaming rig (Ryzen 5 3600 + GTX 1060 6GB). Desktop is buttery and everything looks great, but the second I open a game the framerate is a slideshow, sub-10 fps in stuff that ran fine on Windows. vulkaninfo looks like it is falling back to software rendering. Did I mess up the install or is my GPU just not supported?
GTX 1060 - desktop is smooth but games run like a slideshow
Not your fault, this is a known gap right now. The GTX 1060 is Pascal, and the driver autodetect installs NVIDIA's open kernel modules, which only cover Turing (GTX 16 / RTX 20) and newer. So Pascal drops to the software fallback, which is exactly the slideshow you are seeing.
Full details here: Supported hardware
Until autodetect handles it you can get gaming performance back by installing the legacy driver by hand (nvidia-580xx-dkms). I wrote up the steps over in Guides. Shout if you get stuck.
Confirming this is a real gap and it is on our list. Autodetect will spot pre-Turing cards and pull the legacy branch in a coming update, so you will not have to do this by hand. Thanks for the clear report crt_goblin, the vulkaninfo detail helps.
Legend, thank you both. Installed the legacy driver from frostbyte's guide and I am back to full frames in Deep Rock. Never would have guessed it was the driver branch.
same gpu same exact problem, gonna try the legacy driver thing from the guide. good to know its not just me
